About Atrangi
Indian food in the UK has lost its way. Over the years, it's been reduced to a stereotype—greasy, overly spicy, and far from the vibrant, diverse flavours it truly holds. The rich culinary exchange between India and Britain, once full of history and influence, became muddled along the way, leaving behind a version of Indian food that felt disconnected from its roots. While other global cuisines have embraced the idea of quick, healthy meals, Indian food hadn't been given that same space.
For us, this wasn't just a culinary loss - it was personal. We're Chavi and Keith, and our story begins as two overly exhausted corporates in the heart of London. We met in the city, both having immigrated from India, bonded through relentless work hours and soul-crushing projects—all to build a legacy in a new land, far from the familiar faces and places we once called home.
One late winter night, in a rather ravenous (and maybe slightly delusional) mood, we found ourselves in the kitchen. Keith cracked open a jar of his father's generational recipe of Mango Masala Chutney, scooped out a spoonful, and handed it to Chavi with a forewarning—it packed a punch. One bite, and our eyes went wide with the kind of ooo's and aaah's that only true flavor can spark. A simple dollop transformed our soulless stir-fry into a culinary experience.
That magic in a jar wasn't just nostalgia—it was three generations of perfection, built on a secret family spice mix from Pondicherry. And at that moment, Atrangi was born.
